PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Jerry Holt is a Vietnam veteran fighting a new battle. Holt is on a mission to encourage people to get vaccinated against the H1N1 flu virus.

Hank Holt, 54, is Jerry's younger brother. For the past 33 days, Hank has been in the hospital fighting H1N1. He is currently on a respirator in a drug-induced coma. Doctors say he has only a 10 percent chance of survival.

Jerry has made it his duty to help prevent others from facing a similar fate. So far, Holt has convinced 393 people to get the vaccine.

"I've been to war once in my life, but this is my biggest battle. I'm out to save as many lives as I can," said Holt, 63.

The Holt family has teamed up with Publix, Professional Health Examiners, and Gadsden Street Methodist Church to provide free H1N1 vaccinations to the public.

The free shots will be given Sunday at the following Pensacola locations:

  • Publix
    5055 North 9th Avenue
10 a.m. until supplies run out
  • Professional Health Examiners
    3298 Summit Boulevard
    11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Gadsden Street Methodist Church
