MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) - The end of the school year is always the most exciting part for seniors. But for one teen in particular, the culmination of his senior year will be even more memorable. Timothy Robinson is back home for good and ready to finish out the school year.
Timothy Robinson is finally home after undergoing extensive rehab in Atlanta for the past six months. He suffered a devastating injury during a football game leaving him in a wheelchair. Since then, the community members and classmates have been supporting him and keeping his spirits up. It's a day many have been waiting for.
Timothy is beaming from ear to ear, excited to be back home for good. He graduated from the outpatient program at the Shepard Center and is hoping to get another certificate of completion, this time for graduating high school.
"He has what we call a key guard keyboard for his computer, so he can type out his expressions or whatever his answers are to his questions. We're getting his home bound set up for the school system as well, so he can at least try to graduate this year. Prayerfully he'll be able to," his mother Evelyn McGhee said.
After being away from his LeFlore classmates for months, he's ready to go to the event that culminates his senior year.
"This Friday is prom for Tim, he's excited. When I told him, his face just lit up and he held his number one up and said yes, high in the air," McGhee said.
Timothy's movement and capabilities are steadily progressing.
"He made his first two steps about a month ago. His eating is much better," his father Ben McGhee said.
He makes remarkable strides every day and he hopes to continue doing so. He'll start attending an outpatient program in Mobile. It'll take some time, anywhere from a year to two years, but doctors are confident he will regain his faculties and speech.
"Every milestone for him is another level and another step to his recovery and it just gives him hope and we hope that he will be okay. It may take some time, but he will be okay," McGhee added.
Timothy also plans on going to the school's spring football practices to boost the team in the weight room and encourage the players to be ready for next season. He's ready to get back to his extracurricular activities and determined to live just how he did before his injury.
