PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - It was a sea of green at McGuire's Irish Pub in Pensacola. Green beer, green hats, green shamrocks. It's the one day of the year when everyone is Irish.

FOX10 wanted to figure out what the real meaning of the holiday is.

"The meaning of St. Patrick's Day is everybody gets out to have fun! If your Irish it means more, if you're Greek you can be involved, too. We blend together and have fun," one reveler said.

"Drink as much beer as possible. Celebrate good times, good life," another partier added.

We figured the best way to find out was to go to a real Irish man. Andrew Pascoe said St. Patrick's Day's meaning for him is a time to think of those back home.

"Drinking for remembrance of lost family members, St. Patrick's Day for me is special," said Pascoe.

How about all those legends? What happens if you don't wear green?

"Oh, you're doomed. If you don't have green on, forget it," said another reveler.

"Your not allowed in McGuire's. Can't come here. True Irish to come in here," said a proud Irish man.

"If they're not, well then, maybe they're be prosecuting for some other element."

Pascoe says once again, we have it wrong.

"No pinching. That's the leprechaun fable myths," said Pascoe.
