MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The New Year brings sadness for a Mobile woman who is still mourning the murder of her son last January.
As the first anniversary of the death approaches the killers have never been found.
This is the playground on Eagle Drive where 25 year old Darius Longmire was gunned down on January 2, last year.
Cassandra Rodgers rushed to the scene when she learned her son had been shot, but it was too late.
"I asked her to please let me come through, and she said I'm so sorry."
Rodgers says the pain of losing her son will never go away as long as his killers are still on the street.
"I would just like whoever did this to Darius to be caught, because what I'm going through I wouldn't wish any parent to walk in my shoes," Rodgers said.
Just a few days before his murder, Longmire was found locked in the truck of a car. He wasn't hurt, but another man was killed.
Longmire talked to Fox Ten News right after that incident. He was in the back of a police car.
"I got robbed for my shoes...and the guy got my money. They got robbed for they money, and everything else,Then they shot them both...and that's what happened," Longmire said.
"I asked what was going on, and he told me he didn't know, and I told him you're scaring me," Rodgers said.
The mother believes her sons murder is somehow linked to the earlier robbery.
"It's all been a nightmare to be honest. It's all been a nightmare you don't want to wake up from a dream," she said.
Rodgers is hoping someone will come forward with information to solve her son's murder and ease the pain that now comes with the holiday season.
