SUMMERDALE, Ala. - If you live in Summerdale, the garbage you put on your sidewalk for pick up goes to the Summerdale Landfill.
A lot of garbage goes to the 580 acre site.

Orange Beach Business Team Green wants to build a 60 thousand square foot building that will reduce waste.

Manager Larry Hoover said even if you are not a recycler, your garbage would automatically be used.
" We are going to do the recycling for you. It's going to come into a process and everything that goes through the facility or landfill and we will take out all the recyclable product we can," said Hoover.

The Baldwin County facility will model the one in California.

Once the garbage is in the warehouse, it will travel up a conveyer belt, and sorters will take out all recyclable materials.
The agreement between the commission and Team Green would require the company to recycle 65 percent of the garbage.

" The other 35percent initially will come to the landfill, but we are working on backend methods to possibly turn that into energy for biodiesel fuels," said solid waste director Larry Hoover.

Ransom said the project would possibly eliminate the county's volunteer recycling program. Final decision will come next month.

There would be no cost to the commission. In fact, solid waste workers have said it would save the county $600 thousand a year.

That's because, more space would be available in the landfill and construction would not be needed.
However, Team Green leaders want the right to own all recycled materials. Their profit comes from reselling the materials.
