Aunt of child killed in accident: “It’s really devastating.”

FOLEY, Ala. (WALA) - A victim of a horrific accident that killed a 9-year-old girl responded to comments from the suspect’s mother.

Tameca Brown was driving when her young niece was killed. Police have charged the man who hit her car, Patrick “Shawn” Williams with vehicular homicide.

A head-on collision

Brown recalled the morning of Sept. 16.

She said, “I don’t know what he was doing, but he just came right out in front of me head-on. I was going about 50 and he just turned right in front of me head-on.”

Tameca Brown and her 4-year-old daughter Kamyai are dealing with the painful aftermath of a terrible wreck on County Road 65 in Foley last week.

“It hurts me really bad to see her like this. It really hurts,” Brown said.

But they’re lucky to be alive, Brown’s 9 year-old niece Destiny was also in the car.

She didn’t survive.

“We lost someone very close to us. She’d be here every week and now we won’t be seeing her anymore,” Brown told us. “It’s really devastating.”

Twenty-four-year-old Williams was arrested several days after the wreck. He was charged with vehicular homicide for failing to yield right-of-way.

Police turned in toxicology tests in this case, but investigators said there is an eight-month backlog at the lab, so there will be no quick answers.

Victims speak out

On Friday, Sept. 21, FOX10 interviewed Williams’ mother, Wanda. She told us she couldn’t believe her son could have done this.

“In my heart I know he did not do it,” she said.

Brown heard Williams’ mother and responded.

“I have a clear answer for her,” Brown said. “Her son hit my car and I have to bury my niece Saturday.”

Brown also has her daughter’s recovery to think about; not only physically, but also mentally.

“She wakes up at night in the middle of her sleep. She dreams all the time talking about Destiny with her wings. We’ll get over it. Everything is going to be okay,” Brown said.

Brown says her family will take it one day at a time, but she wants to see Williams take responsibility.

Brown sighed, ”I just want justice to be served. I don’t hate nobody, but I want him to pay for what he’s done to me and my family.”

In the meantime, Destiny’s wake will be Friday, Sept. 28, at Joe Morris funeral home in Pensacola. Her funeral will be Saturday morning at Talbot AME Zion church.
