BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. - Fifty years ago 4-year-old Danny Barter vanished from Perdido Bay. However, his family hasn't given up hope that someone knows what happened to him and would bring him home.
The family never expected more than a day to pass without finding Danny and now they are marking fifty years. A candlelight vigil is planned for Saturday on the beach, the same spot Danny disappeared. Danny's younger brother, Mike Barter believes if Danny were to go missing today he would be found quickly, with the advances in technology.
Barter said his mother never gave up hope that Danny would be found.
"Family reunions we would also wonder what Danny would be like if he were here," said Barter.
The family hopes Danny's story will save others from going through what his family went through. "It can happen in a matter of seconds, Danny was here one second, gone the next." The family had been clearing a lot in Perdido Bay, when Danny was last seen.
Barter said the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office and FBI have been very helpful, and kept this cold case on the front burner whenever possible. "We are so grateful to them," said Barter.
