Fairhope standoff ends, suspect named

FAIRHOPE, Ala. - 12:28 p.m. Authorities have named the suspect in the early morning standoff. He is 46-year-old Richard Gambino. Police say he was found drunk inside his business. He was arrested and is now being questioned.

10:30 a.m. Standoff over. Police used a flash-bang grenade to subdue a man who had been holed up in a restaurant. The man has been taken into custody.

9:48 a.m.
An armored vehicle is now on the scene of the Police standoff in Fairhope. State troopers have now joined Fairhope, Daphne and the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office on the scene. Authorities are advising people to stay indoors until this situation is resolved.

7:50 a.m. Fairhope City Offices are closed right now due to the situation downtown. City Hall employees have been allowed inside, but have been placed in one central location.

The play "Jack and the Beanstalk" was scheduled at the Municipal Complex Tuesday morning, but that has been canceled.

6:00 a.m. Fairhope Police have cordoned off parts of Section and Bancroft Street this Tuesday morning because of a police standoff.

Police say they received a call around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday that a man had barricaded himself inside the Ravenite Pizzaria, which is across the street from the police station.

Police have been in communication with the man, but won't say if he has any demands. Gas has been turned off where the suspect is located.

Section Street between Oak Street and Magnolia Avenue has been blocked off. Bancroft from Oak to Magnolia is also closed. Please steer clear of that area until this situation is resolved.

Fairhope Police, along with Daphne Police and the Baldwin County Sheriff's office are combining efforts to bring the situation to an end.
