BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office reports that a 17-year-old was shot Saturday night on Gravine Island and is currently fighting for her life in the hospital.
Summer Moody was shot in the head while on the island late Saturday night.
The Baldwin County Sheriff's office says Moody was with three juvenile boys, who are now charged with third-degree burglary. An investigator said the boys are suspected of burglarizing a fish camp on Gravine Island Saturday night.
Deputies have not said how Moody was shot - or by whom.
Friends of Moody told Fox10 News she is critical condition at the University of South Alabama Medical Center.
Kimberly Boatwright spoke to Moody's best friend, Savannah White, who was at USA Medical Center with Moody.
"She told Summer to squeeze her hand and asked if she could hear her and if she knew she was there, she did, [Summer] squeezed her hand multiple times," said Boatwright.
The next 48 to 72 hours are critical to Moody's survival, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office statement.
Gravine Island is an island on the Tensaw River sits north of Blakeley and is only accessible by boat.
Ray Nelson owns a fish camp on the river and said he hadn't heard about the shooting and burglary.
"I was just shocked by the whole thing. We had trouble last year; we had our camp broken into," said Nelson.
In 20 years, Nelson has never heard of anything this tragic happening on the river.
USA Medical Center says Moody is in intensive care and at last check, she was in critical condition.
