Robbery suspect surrenders to Daphne PD

DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) - Baldwin County deputies say two 18-year-olds are responsible for car burglaries that took place in Daphne over the weekend.

Early Monday, the Daphne Police Department and Baldwin County Sheriff's Office arrested one of the suspects, Chandler Luker, for breaking and entering.

Investigators said, later Monday afternoon, Jeffrey Chad Parnell, Jr., came forward and turned himself in.

Parnell is charged with first-degree robbery and Luker is charged with breaking and entering a vehicle.

Investigators said Parnell pulled a gun on a man who witnessed one of the crimes. As it turns out, the man works as a corrections officer with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

"He happened to be coming out of his front door that Sunday morning and confronted one of the suspects in his vehicle. When he confronted him, the suspect brandished a weapon and threatened him verbally and then fled the area on foot," said Baldwin County Sheriff investigator Eric Winberg.

Derrick Banks lives down the street from that corrections officer. He said the weapon presented in the confrontation was stolen from his vehicle.

Investigators are still working to determine how many cars were broken into and whether they were all on the same street.

"My neighbor down the street came to me and said he got robbed with a pistol and I looked in the car to find out it was mine and it was gone," said Banks.

Deputies said the suspects stole more than just the pistol.

"We had handcuffs taken from our corrections officer, several GPS units, flash lights, knives and at least one handgun that we know of at this time,” Winberg said.
