BALDWIN CO., Ala. - Next school year may be Dr. Faron Hollinger's last term as Baldwin County superintendent. He has requested that the board accept his request to leave the district a year before his contract expires.

"My goal will be a seamless transition in leadership," said Hollinger.

Hollinger said one main reason he's stepping down is because many of the major projects he set to accomplish will be done in the coming months. The other reason is because he is considering retirement. "This was purely an opportunity for me to step back and evaluate where our system is and when an appropriate time for a transition to occur."

Hollinger said he has been thinking about leaving since the Spring Break holiday. And last week, he finally decided to go through with it.

The seven-year superintendent says he has been contacted by other districts to fill vacant superintendent positions, but is not taking those seriously.

"I am not pursuing any other jobs. I have received a few calls on a few jobs. I haven't responded to any of those. I am not seeking employment."

The board must still approve his request, and if that is done Hollinger's last day will be June 30, 2010. The board is expected to take up the issue at Thursday's board meeting.
