BCSO still on scene of deadly shooting

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WALA) - The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office met Saturday morning to discuss the latest information in the investigation into the shooting death of Deputy Scott Ward.  

Officials said they will hold a press conference on Monday, Nov. 26, to release more information on the shooting that left Ward dead.

In a statement released Saturday, officials said autopsies were performed on Deputy Ward and Michael Jansen by the Alabama Department of Forensic Science.

The second deputy that was wounded during the incident is still in critical condition at USA Medical Center.

Sheriff's office officials said Ward was fatally wounded and another deputy was wounded during an exchange of gunfire with Jansen on Friday evening. Another deputy also suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The BCSO said Jansen was also shot and killed in the incident on Mallard Ln. in Fairhope.

A man who lives in the area said he heard gunshots, but thought they came from hunters. 

Saturday, Baldwin County Sheriff's Deputies were still on the scene of the shooting. FOX10 News found one deputy stationed at the entrance to Mallard Ln. keeping motorists and passersby away from the street and crime scene.

Yellow tape securing the entrance to the street had been cut down, but there were remnants.

Officials said they will advise of the funeral arrangements for Ward as those details become available.

A Facebook page has been set up in memory of Ward, and Governor Robert Bentley sent out his condolences through a statement on Twitter.
