City of Gulf Shores selling 13 homes

GULF SHORES, Ala (WALA) -

The City of Gulf Shores is offering 13 homes for sale to the public.  The city purchased the homes earlier this year through a lawsuit settlement arising from a flooding problem.

“The drainage issue has been corrected and the houses have been cleaned,” said Mayor Robert Craft.  “Initially we had 18 homes, but five of the homes are already under contract and set to close.”

The City began accepting offers for each home on September 20th.

“It should be emphasized that this is not a sale of distressed housing. These are attractive homes in a stable neighborhood, and are priced very competitively,” Craft said. “They will be an excellent bargain for future owners.”

Realtors are invited to participate and a 2 % commission will be paid to realtors who bring buyers and close on the properties. The listed homes range from 1,100 to almost 1,700 square feet.

“Some homes will require minor repair and/or cosmetic work, but that has been taken into account in the pricing,” said Craft. “All offers will be considered, but these are really priced with the intention to be sold as is.”

Each of the homes can be viewed through the City’s website or if you call 251-968-1962, you can personally inspect any of the properties that interest you.

Offers to purchase should be made to the City Administrator at 251-968-2205. In each case, the offer that nets the City the highest price will be chosen. All offers will have to be prequalified as the city is not in a position to participate, in any way, in financing the homes.  A 5% deposit will be required on any offer that is accepted.
