DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) - The Daphne Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of their own.

Officials say Dan Castrillo passed away suddenly Wednesday afternoon after he was admitted to the hospital on Sunday.

Fire officials said he had suddenly become sick.

Fellow firefighters say Castrillo was loved by his community. He served in the military, taught religious education and was also a substitute teacher at Daphne High School.

Castrillo is survived by his wife and three children.

A Facebook page, named "Heaven Gains a Hero, Memories of Dan Castrillo" has been set up in his honor.
