DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) - FOX10 News has learned some encouraging news about the condition of a Daphne High School assistant football coach who was critically hurt in a traffic accident Wednesday morning.

A co-worker said Jacy Todd has been responding well to medicine, but he still has no movement in his legs.

It's an understatement to say the Daphne Football program has been very successful.

Jacy Todd coaches outside linebackers.

His name is on a poster honoring the 2010 state championship football team.

Head Football Coach Glenn Vickery said, "Right now, he's still fighting for his life."

Vickery said he's been visiting Todd regularly.

Todd was hurt in a traffic accident on Highway 181 near I-10.

Vickery said Todd was ejected, even though he was wearing a seat belt.

He said, "He (Todd) was on the way up here to work in this classroom, and cut the game field. He's a football enthusiast. He's passionate. I have to tell him to go home. I say, 'Go Home.' "

It may be a while before he returns to school and the football field.

The students don't come back until August 20.

Football practice starts Monday, but players have joined many others asking about Coach Todd.

Coach Vickery said, "It’s been such an outpouring of response: college coaches calling, high school coaches calling, texting. It’s just amazing: something like that to get people’s attention."

Football may be around the corner, but Vickery added, "It’s one of those things the good Lord puts in your life to keep things in perspective, and, right now, football practice is not part of that."

Todd is listed in critical condition at USA Medical Center.
