DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) - Daphne High School has been named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. It is one of the most prestigious national honors a school can earn.

“This honor is indicative of a school that places the well-being of students at the center of everything that they do,” said Dr. Tony Thacker, Coordinator of Research and Development, Alabama State Department of Education.

“Our highest praise goes to Dr. Meredith Foster, principal, leadership team and teachers at Daphne High School, to the entire Daphne community and the students and parents who together have taken Daphne High School to the top,” said Dr. Alan T. Lee, superintendent.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and non-public elementary, middle, and high schools where students achieve at very high levels and/or where the achievement gap in narrowing.

The Program sets a standard of excellence for all schools striving for the highest level of achievement.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program is part of a larger U. S. Department of Education effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about best school leadership and teaching practices.

Each year since 1982, the U.S. Department of Education has sought out schools where students attain and maintain high academic goals, including those that beat the odds.
