BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WALA) - A family in Bay Minette has lost everything just weeks before Christmas. An early morning house fire ravaged the home, and now they’re working to pick up the pieces.
As she shifted through the rubble, Shay Koen said, "Feels like a dream to me.”
There is nothing salvageable in Koen's home.
Koen and her twin boys’ clothes, electronics and memories all turned to ash.
"Their birthday is two days after Christmas, and all of their stuff is gone," said Koen.
A house fire ravaged the home early Friday morning.
Koen was sitting in the living room with her sons.
"They were asleep in my arms. I was about to fall asleep. I smell smoke, black smoke coming from the hallway,” said Koen.
Koen was able to get and her babies and herself to safety but the smoke made it impossible to save anything but their lives.
"My ultrasound pictures, those are memories I can never get back," said Koen.
The only help they have gotten is a $20 check from their landlord and a four night stay at a hotel from the Red Cross
After that they don't know where to go.
“Not sure. Not sure yet," said Koen.
