BALDWIN COUNTY, Alabama (WALA) - A former Baldwin County District Attorney may prosecute the murder retrial of Steve Nodine. David Whetstone told FOX10 News Baldwin County’s new DA Hallie Dixon talked to him about the possibility of being a special prosecutor.
However, there are a couple of things that need to happen first. Dixon will have to decide to retry the case and Whetstone would have to be appointed special prosecutor by the Attorney General.
After being sworn in, Dixon said she had not decided on whether or not to retry the former Mobile County Commissioner. She said she still had some questions about the case.
Nodine’s first murder trial ended with a hung jury just before the Christmas holiday. The jury did find him guilty of ethics violation for misusing his county-issued truck.
Nodine is accused of killing his mistress Angel Downs. A retrial is scheduled for the end of February, but it’s not clear when Dixon will decide whether or not to move forward.
