FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WALA) - Four members of Fairhope Police Explorer Post 5141 graduated from the Alabama Law Enforcement Explorer Academy.
Fairhope Explorers Victoria Hughes, Sultan Kantaroglu, Brenden Seaborg, and Lauren Paul, under the supervision of Fairhope Police Sergeant John Hamrick and Post Advisor Tonya Hughes, attended the week long academy held at the University of Montevallo from June 10 to June 16, 2012.
This advanced police explorer academy taught the importance of discipline, courage, respect, pride, and leadership in order to succeed in goals set. The academy represented a boot camp atmosphere with military structure and discipline for approximately 150 Explorers. The Explorers participated in daily physical training as well as classroom instruction and other scheduled recreational activities.
Advanced law enforcement instructors across the country with expertise in each field conducted law enforcement training classes for the explorers which included: traffic stops, domestic violence, building search/burglary response, arrest and search, bomb threat response, hostage negotiation, crime scene investigation, traffic accident investigation, leadership principles, criminal law, photography, collection and preservation of evidence, measurements and diagrams, white collar crime, officer survival, crime prevention, SWAT tactics training, leadership course and firearms safety.
Law Enforcement Exploring is a branch of Learning for Life, a division of the Boy Scouts of America. The Explorer Post is open to young men and women, age 14 to 20, who are interested in learning more about modern policing.
Those interested may contact Sergeant Hamrick at the Fairhope Police Department, (251) 928-2385.
