GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) - Officials in Gulf Shores raised double red flags on public beaches for the first time since Isaac entered the Gulf.
Authorities are sending a clear message to beach-goers to stay out of the water.
"I'm not getting in the water. I mean there's kids out there playing- so," said one beachgoer.
The rough surf has been steadily picking up throughout the day, attracting many locals who are looking for a good photo-op.
Meanwhile, lifeguards are reminding the public of the dangers of swimming in such rough surf.
Despite the uneasy water and clouded skies, locals said they aren't worried but they are prepared for what's to come.
"Just a lot of rain and some flooding. But I've lived here all my life, trough Katrina and Ivan. And I think we're going not going to get a lot of harm," said a Gulf Shores local.
City leaders said road closures will also go into effect Tuesday morning at 8am.
Highway 59 from the zoo heading south and everything west of Highway 135 will be closed ahead of the storm.
