BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WALA) - Baldwin County High School administrators said a handgun was found in a student's backpack on Thursday.
Administrators said they were alerted by a parent that there could possibly be a handgun in a student's backpack.
Administrators said they went straight to the backpack and handed it immediately to police. Officials said the handgun was not loaded, but bullets were found in the backpack.
Officials said the firearm was never exposed to anybody, and it remained in the backpack until it was removed by police.
School officials said students were not threatened or harmed. They said students weren’t even aware there was a firearm on campus.
Two students were arrested by Bay Minette Police.
Administrators said school safety is a community effort.
