BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - Baldwin County Sheriff's Office officials said former Mobile County Commissioner Steve Nodine checked in with the department Monday night.

Nodine had 24 hours after his release from federal prison to check in with Baldwin County, where he is facing a second murder trial scheduled for later this year. He also has to contact federal authorities in Mobile but had more time to do so.

Nodine was convicted of a federal gun charge in 2011 and served 12 months of a 15 month sentence in a Miami federal prison. He was released yesterday.

He went on trial for murdering his longtime mistress Angel Downs in December 2010 but that trial ended with a deadlocked jury, resulting in a mistrial. A special prosecutor is being brought in to retry the case.
