Nodine grand jury report released

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WALA) - Baldwin County District Attorney Hallie Dixon read aloud a grand jury report in open court Thursday that included two indictments that were being handed up.

Sources tell FOX10 News the case that was heard was that against former Mobile County Commissioner Steve Nodine. Dixon would not confirm that information or that Steve Nodine was the one named in the indictments.

Nodine's defense attorneys, Pascal Bruijn and John Beck, were both present for the grand jury report. Both approached Dixon after the jury had been taken out and asked for details. Dixon told the two she could not release anything.

Bruijn and Beck declined to comment on camera afterward.

Dixon addressed the media briefly, only to say she had nothing to say.

"Right now, ya'll know there's been a lot of attention on what's been going on this week. I cannot legally comment on the proceedings of a grand jury," she said.

FOX10 News has also been in contact with the family of Angel Downs. A few members of the family have been in town over the past couple of days for the special session of the grand jury.

The family said they have been told that there are indictments, but they have not been given any information on the counts. Those with the family say they continue to hold Steve Nodine 100 percent responsible for the death of their loved one.

Angel Downs was found in her driveway with a single gunshot wound to the head on Mother's Day 2010. Nodine was indicted for murder last year by a Baldwin County jury in the dealth of Downs. Nodine was also indicted on charges of stalking and an ethics violation. Nodine was found guilty of the ethics violation, but a jury was not able to reach a unanimous decision on the murder and stalking charges.

Nodine is currently serving time for a gun charge in a federal prison in Miami.

As far as the new indictments are concerned, questions to Dixon's office on when those indictments will be served have not been answered.
