BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - An officer involved shooting in Baldwin County on Friday night left one deputy and a suspect dead and another deputy in critical condition.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said around 4 p.m. on Nov. 23, three Baldwin County Sheriff's Deputies responded a call on Mallard Lane in Fairhope in reference to a welfare concern.

Authorities said a suspect was reportedly acting aggressive with family members.

According to officials, upon arrival, they encountered a suspect identified as Michael Jansen at the residence. Deputies said Jansen pulled out a gun and started shooting; two deputies were shot multiple times. The third was not injured.

Both injured deputies were taken to USA Medical Center. Officials said Jansen was also shot during the exchange. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said Deputy Scott Ward was pronounced dead at the hospital. The second deputy, who has not been identified, is listed in critical condition.

Ward was a 15-year veteran. Sheriff Hoss Mack said he knew the deputy very well. He said the other deputy is a 10-12 year veteran.

An investigation is currently underway by the Baldwin County major crimes task force. An internal investigation is underway as well.
