Businesses, gov't reps gather to discuss stormwater

SPANISH FORT, Ala. (WALA) - Businesses and government representatives from Mobile and Baldwin Counties gathered Thursday to discuss how to best manage the area's stormwater.

Stormwater can cause flooding and damage homes, businesses, roads and infrastructure. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, polluted stormwater is the number one threat to the nation's water quality.

" You've got to be more mindful of where you throw your trash and where you put it," said one official.

The meeting was organized to share new ideas and strategies, identify what is working at the local level and how technologies can be transferred.

" Hopefully at some point developing programs that are continuous between both sides of the Bay. The raindrop knows no municipal boundary," said City Engineer, Nick Amberger.

The meeting was held at the 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center on the Causeway and was hosted by the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program .
