SPANISH FORT, Ala. (WALA) - Call it a Christmas miracle. Two puppies no bigger than a teacup are alive after overcoming some big obstacles.

These were born Dec. 6,  but the circumstances were anything but normal. Their mother was hit by a car in Spanish Fort with her nine puppies in her tummy.

She was taken to Bay Animal Clinic North to Dr. Steven Parvin.

"She was paralyzed. Her back was broken. She was in bad shape, but she was hanging on.," said Parvin.

Parvin said they knew the mother would not make it, and it was it was a team decision to try and save her puppies. One they had to make fast.

“I said, 'If we are going to do this, we’ve got to do it together. I need to know we got people that will be raising these puppies.’ And the girls jumped in and said, ‘Lets do it,’" said Parvin.

After an emergency cesarean section these two are the only ones that made it beating unbelievable odds. The impact from the crash alone is hard to survive, than you add that the mother was in shock and had been severely malnourished.

"The puppies heart rates were very slow on the ultra sound compared to what they should have been and we knew they were fading it was just so much at one time to go through," said Parvin.

But they made it.

"These are strong," said Parvin.

So why did Parvin and his team go out of its way to save a stray's puppies? There’s a simple answer.

"To help them, and help the momma dog in some way,” said Parvin.

If you are interested in adopting one of these survivors of just want to help, you can contact the animal clinic at (251) 621-8900.
