DAPHNE, Alabama (WALA) - UPDATE: The Daphne Police Department has made an arrest in the death of Steven Mccullough. The roommate of the 43-year-old confessed to killing Mccullough.
Police said Shaun Anthony Carmadelle stated he strangled Mccullough with two electrical cords during a fight early Saturday morning.
The preliminary autopsy report indicates cause of death is strangulation and the manner of death is homicide.
Carmadelle has been charged with capital murder.
He is being held at the Daphne Police Department for the night and will be transferred to the Baldwin County Correctional Facility Tuesday.
12:00 p.m. Daphne police say the roommate of a man found dead in his apartment is in custody as a person of interest. Steven McCullough, 43, was found in his apartment in the Grande Point Apartment complex February 20.
Daphne Police were called to Grande Point Apartments on Lake Front Drive Sunday evening.
They went to check on Mccullough. Officers said they found him dead inside his apartment.
"I didn't know anything about it," said one resident.
But, several hours after the discovery, police had Mccullough's roommate in custody.
The roommate, Shaun A. Carmadelle, was arrested on unrelated charged, a violation of release order. Police said he is a person of interest in the homicide.
Daphne Police said Carmadelle was driving the victim's car when he was picked up, and they believe he was the last person to see Mccullough alive.
Authorities have recovered the vehicle and are being assisted by the FBI in processing it.
Mccullough's body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensics for an autopsy.
Jail records show Carmadelle had two drug related arrested in January and September of 2010.
