Michigan sex offender arrested in Daphne for failure to register

DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) - The crimes of convicted sex offenders can follow them for years. That's the case for a young woman who was arrested in Daphne.

Now, once again, she finds herself in trouble with the law again nearly seven years after a disturbing crime in Michigan.

SEX OFFENDER FAILED TO REGISTER

When convicted sex offender 23 year-old Deborah Ledford went to the Daphne Police Department to register after moving from Florida, officials said some things didn't add up.

"When she got here to register, there's some pretty basic questions you ask, and we determined she'd actually been living here for about a month," Lt. Jud Beedy with the Daphne Police Department said.

Police said Ledford's given address was off Sea Cliff Drive where she was living with her mom. When FOX10 knocked on the door, a man told us she wasn't living there.

Ledford was also charged as a sex offender living in a prohibited area.

"They can't live within 2,000 feet of a school or a daycare, several things like that. There's just places in the city of Daphne and all throughout the United States they're not going to be able to live," Lt. Beedy said.

DISTURBING CRIME IN MICHIGAN

Officials said just days after turning 17, Ledford was arrested in Genesee, Michigan along with two adult men. They were charged with accosting a minor for immoral purposes. The victim was a 13-year-old girl.

Ledford plead guilty to the crime that continues to follow her across the country after all these years.

"We do our best to make sure we know who's here in our city, and who's not. And when she came in and notified us, it violated the law. And, we arrested her for it," Lt. Beedy said.

Ledford is being held under no bond in the Baldwin County Jail.
