BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - A wake was held for Deputy Scott Ward at the Wolfe Bayview Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 26 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Ward's funeral will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 10 a.m. in the Fairhope Civic Center with the burial to follow at Fairhope Memory Gardens.
Baldwin County Sheriff Huey “Hoss” Mack encouraged the public to come out and line the streets.
The procession route will come from downtown Fairhope and at the intersection of Fairhope Avenue and Greeno Road and will proceed south to Fairhope Memory Gardens.
“Anyone that wishes to come out, we're asking them to avoid the downtown area of Fairhope because of the congestion and be on Greeno Road south of Fairhope Avenue, which is in the area of Thomas Hospital to give you an idea on that. So any of the public that wants to come out and express their support and their condolences, in doing that, are welcome to do that at that location,” said Sheriff Mack.
Law enforcement attending the funeral have been asked to park across the street from the cemetery at the Colony Cemetery.
The BCSO said, due to parking limitations, those who want to go directly to the cemetery should do so.
The over 15-year law enforcement veteran was killed during an exchange of gunfire with Michael Jansen as Ward and two other deputies responded to a call of a domestic dispute on Mallard Lane in Fairhope. Jansen was also killed in the shootout.
