In spite of weather, some municipalities hold elections

SPANISH FORT, Ala. (WALA) - While most municipalities throughout the area postponed elections scheduled for Tuesday, some have decided to open the polls despite the threat of tropical storm Isaac.

Spanish Fort and Daphne chose to do just that as tropical storm Isaac moseyed through the Gulf of Mexico at a steady 7 mph on Tuesday. The storm’s rain bands had already reached some areas.

Voters at The Gathering Place in Spanish Fort turned out early to beat the weather. Candidates and their supporters waved to voters from tents lining the parking lot.

Just in case, the tents were weighed down with sand bags.

Those that came out said they had already prepared their homes for the storm and felt it was their constitutional duty to cast their votes.
