FOLEY, Ala. (WALA) - Recently, Summer Moody's family and friends learned the news that would change their lives forever - and Monday was just as emotional as they said their final goodbyes.
Pastor Matthew Kelley with Christian Valley Baptist Church said he could tell even though she was young, Moody had impacted many lives.
"The tears are there. They're real. Their grieving is real, all of that is process of death we'll go through," Kelley said.
He said friends and family gathered to share memories they had of the teen.
"Reliving the great times of Summer's life. We brought up a lot of great memories, the times when she was a child all the way up to where she is now," Kelley said.
Kelley described Moody's life as colorful and said many knew Moody by one thing.
"Her smile was contagious," Kelley said.
Moody's body was being taken to Ward, Alabama, to be buried beside her grandfather.
Authorities said Moody was shot when three men came to investigate a burglary. They say two of the men fired warning shots, one of which hit her in the head.
Moody was on Gravine Island with three teens accused breaking into a fish camp. The three teens are charged with felony burglary.
Baldwin County District Attorney Hallie Dixon said two adults who fired the warning shots are will not be charged.
