Tattoo parlor joins Team Starla

SPANISH FORT, Ala. (WALA) - Tuesday, Fox Ten News told you about little Starla Chapman, who is fighting for her life at USA Children's and Women's hospital in Mobile.

Starla was diagnosed with a rare form of luekeima last year.

You may recall, Alabama quarterback, AJ McCarron wore one of her support bracelets that says "Just Trust" during the BCS National Championship Game.

Now it turns out, people are taking the "Team Starla" mantra "Just Trust" even further.

A tattoo parlor in Spanish Fort isn't the first place that comes to mind, when you think of Starla Chapman, a 3-year-old fighting for her life.

Starla was diagnosed with a rare form of luekemia called Acute Ayloid Luekemia. She was diagnosed September 13, and started chemo the next day.  Her parents, DeAndra and Korey Chapman said one of her chemo drugs damaged her heart, and now she is in a medically induced coma.

"She's a fighter, and has continued to be a fighter. She fights against Luekemia and now fighting against the heart problems, even after being told she may not make it 24 hours,"  DeAndra Chapman said.

Amidst the needles and ink, Slow Fade has become somewhat of a Team Starla rallying point.

Starla's story hits close to home for co-owner Chanel Cieutat.

"I have a sister that would have been 30 years old, and because of childhood cancer it took her life. I know the pain, and ache my step mom has gone through the last 30 years,"  Cieutat said.

Cieutat is also a mother to a little girl just about the same age as Starla.

"I couldn't imagine being in their position and hearing what the doctor's are saying,"  Cieutat said.

Team Starla's battle cry is "Just Trust." It's taken from Proverbs 3 and 5 that says "Trust in the Lord God with all of your heart."

And that is what Starla's family is doing. It's inscribed on tie dyed bracelets, worn by supporters. Starla's supporters include Alabama Quarterback AJ McCarron.

"She would just say it all through the journey, just trust mommy,"DeAndra Chapman said.

And now, people are lining up to have the mantra "Just Trust" permanently inscribed on their bodies.

"For a 3-year-old little girl to have that child like faith, that calm heart and to turn to her Mommy and say just trust, speaks volumes," Cieutat said.

Tattoo artist Matt Cietat said the artwork is simple, and it's a way to give back to a family that is going through so much.

"We are giving the money to help the family anyway we can," Matt Cieutat said. "I have a little girl that is just about Starla's age and it real eye opening."

The tattoo is a permanent reminder for a little girl who's inspired so many.
