GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) - Gulf Shores Police department said two people had to be hospitalized after an explosion caused a boat to catch fire Saturday afternoon.
Officials said the nearly 24-foot vessel was in the Intercoastal Waterway near Plash Island near Gulf Shores when the explosion happened around 12:40 p.m.
Four people were on board, according to Gulf Shores Police. One person had to be LifeFlighted to the USA Medical Center Burn Unit, and is in fair condition. A second victim was taken to South Baldwin Hospital; the other two were not hurt.
Gulf Shores Police said the investigation into the cause of the explosion and fire police. They credited Gulf Shores fire rescue, the Coast Guard, Alabama Marine Police and the Bon Secour FD with helping the victims.
