SPANISH FORT, Ala. (WALA) - Police dash cam video cleared a Spanish Fort police officer’s name and landed a woman behind bars.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said 31-year-old Lisha Weaver claimed she was sexually assaulted by an officer, but police said that wasn't the case.

Saturday morning, Spanish Fort Police Chief David Edgar learned that one of his officers was facing a sexual assault allegation.

"The officer who was named in the allegation has about 16 years of experience. He has worked very hard during that time to maintain and build a good reputation, and it only takes one complaint like this that could tarnish that reputation,” said Edgar.

The officer first came into contact with Weaver when he responded to Drifters Bar on the causeway. It was a report of a stolen driver’s license.

"She had been drinking and actually had the ID in her bra,” said Edgar.

Edgar said Weaver began fighting the officer. She was charged with resisting arrest and public intoxication.

Edgar said Weaver told jail employees that on the way there the officer had pulled over and sexually assaulted her.

"The car was equip with an in-car video and recorded the whole time that the transport was taking place as well as while he was on scene there at Drifters and at the docket room,” said Edgar.

Investigators said the dash cam video shows other than a few stop lights and stop signs, the officer drove straight to the Daphne jail.

"Never had any sort of opportunity to do any sort of sexual assault," said Edgar.

On top of her public intoxication and resisting arrest charges, Weaver now also faces charges for making a false report and rendering false alarm.

Weaver was released from the Baldwin County Jail on $2,000 bond.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation. It would not release the video from the officer’s car.
