CHICKASAW, Ala. (WALA) - There's been no indication Mobile County District Attorney John Tyson, Junior has changed his stand on electronic bingo. But Chickasaw City Council Member Adam Bourne says the city is moving forward with its plan to bring bingo in.
"I'm told that it would be something that could be done very quickly. They have a contract line up they could make that happen within a matter of weeks," Bourne said in a telephone interview Wednesday.
Tuesday night, the city council approved the first reading of a revised bingo ordinance. Bourne said the city attorney is ready to meet with Tyson to convince the D.A. the machines are legal.
"So that he can be shown that this is in fact a different type of project than the one that's been in the media already. This project is based around a paper base, and that's really a core difference here is it's a different type of bingo than what you've seen in the media so far," Bourne said.
Bourne is convinced the machines meet all the requirements set out by the court.
"All the machine really does, when it comes down to it, is it prints out a card and the player who is playing bingo would play off the paper card," he said.
Bourne hopes the D.A. will agree before the council takes its final vote on the ordinance next month.
For the first time, the city revealed the investment company behind the bingo deal. According to Councilman Bourne it's "M.S. Land", which is owned by Gulf Shores Attorney Pete Bridges.
