TERREBONNE PARISH, La. (WALA) - The United States Coast Guard Sector New Orleans confirmed there was an oil platform fire in the Gulf of Mexico Wednesday.

The Coast Guard said they received a call about the incident around 10:20 a.m. at W&T Offshore Platform.  The Coast Guard reports there were three workers on the platform that received minor injuries.

They estimate there was less than a barrel of oil spilled.  They said spill created a light sheen about 600 yards long.

Coast Guard officials said they had the fire out by 2 p.m. and the situation is under control.

The fire is under investigation.  The spill occurred about 35 miles off the shore of Terrebonne Parish.
