Alderman arrested on child porn charges

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WALA) - An Ocean Springs alderman has been indicted on a child pornography charge after authorities found a sexually explicit video called "Bathtime with Daddy" on his work computer.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said James Roy Hagan was indicted Friday on one charge of exploitation of a child.

“It’s a very sexually explicit video,” said Byrd.

The child involved in the pornographic video was a 3-year-old girl, according to the indictment. The indictment said Hagan possessed the child pornography on Dec. 3, 2009.

Right now, Hagan represents ward six in Ocean Springs and has not resigned his alderman post. Under the law, Byrd said Hagan is allowed to stay in his position but if Hagan is convicted, he will have to vacate.

Hagan was, however, fired as code enforcement officer in Moss Point according to Byrd.

"The citizens put their trust in us, and that's what we’re going to continue to strive for so that the citizens understand we're not going to tolerate this type of behavior from anyone," Byrd said.

The alderman was accused of two sex crimes and embezzlement last year. A Jackson County grand jury cleared him of the touching a child for lustful purposes charge several months ago. The embezzlement charge is pending still.
