VANCLEAVE, Miss. (AP) - Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd says a Vancleave man died after his boat hit a log and threw him out.

He says an autopsy will tell whether alcohol was involved in 38-year-old Gene Tanner's death early Saturday.

He says Tanner left Little River Marina in Escatawpa about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. He was heading for his houseboat, and a friend called the sheriff's office about noon because he went to the houseboat and didn't find anyone.

Sheriff's deputies began searching the rivers around noon, and Tanner's body was discovered about 6 p.m. Saturday in Middle River.
