GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - A handful of homes have been evacuated while authorities deal with ammunition found at another residence where a man was seriously injured in an explosion.
Gulfport Police say the man was hurt about 1:30 p.m. Thursday while apparently cutting on an anti-tank round.
Fire Chief Mike Beyerstedt told The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/zOEaFa ) that the man was brought to Fire Station No. 11 where paramedics stabilized him until an ambulance arrived.
Beyerstedt says they were initially told that the man was cutting on a welding tank when the explosion occurred.
Police Capt. Neal Stachura says the question now is where did the man get anti-tank rounds.
Police have put crime-scene tape around the wood-frame home, which is in a wooded area at the end of the road.
