PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (WALA) - Indiana State police troopers said a Mississippi mother and her 3-year-old child were killed in a traffic accident in Putnam County, Ind.

Emma Bronson, 49, and Zacchia Bronson, 3, of Pascagoula, Miss. were killed in the multi-vehicle crash around 6:10 p.m. on Friday on Interstate 70 in Putnam County, Ind.

It started with stopped traffic because of construction. A tractor pulling a trailer driven by Jordan Moore, 27, struck a pickup truck in the rear. The truck veered to the right and overturned.

The trailer continued forward and struck the rear of Bronson's BMW, which burst into flames before striking another car from behind.

Motorists removed Emma Bronson from the passenger side of car to attempt first aid, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. They could not remove the toddler, however, and she was also pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the car survived.

No one else involved in the accident was killed; they were all taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
