PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WALA) - A bomb squad was called to a house in Pascagoula, after agents with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office got an anonymous tip about improvised explosives.
Authorities said they found an IED and much more.
From buds to bombs, the members of the Narcotics Task Force of Jackson County said they found criminal activity at a home on Buena Vista Street.
"They found a marijuana grow on the inside," Sheriff Mike Byrd said. "As they were searching in the house, they found a pretty good amount of black powder. And also, they found a CO-2 cartridge with the wick coming out of it which was also full of black powder which is an explosive device. All you had to do was light it and throw it and you pretty much had a hand grenade there."
Deputies said they also recovered a large amount of weapons and ammunition for assault rifles.
Authorities arrested homeowner David Reid, along with Michael Hinkel and Macy "Ramona" Williamson.
"I don't know what happening. I was visiting a friend and obviously shouldn't have been,” Williamson said.
She said she had no knowledge or part of the incident.
Williamson claims she had no idea about the drugs and guns.
The task force said they believe the marijuana in the box was meant to be sold and that even the seeds are labeled by strain.
All three suspects are charged with cultivation of marijuana while in possession of a firearm.
"I was shocked about the bomb part. I wanted to come home immediately because I have a baby here," Neighbor Jacob Turner said.
The neighborhood is filled with children, and there's a church just feet away from there. The bust comes as a relief for many.
The sheriff said his main concern is the people in the community.
"To me, the explosive device, the black powder and firearms, those are off the streets. Nobody is going to get hurt form that," Byrd added.
The sheriff will continue to investigate this case to see if it leads elsewhere.
In addition to previous mentioned charges, Reid is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of explosives.
