Space 301 in downtown Mobile is offering new classes for the littlest artists and their parents. You can get into the art studio literally with your kids, and it won't cost you a dime.
Wayne McNeil is the Curator of Education and Community Engagement at the Centre for the Living Arts. He says starting Wednesday (January 18th), Space 301 will host the Pre-K Studio. Pre-K Studio is a chance for children ages 3 to 5 "to come with their parents and do exciting art projects. And, the following Saturday (January 21st) starts Kids Studio, which is for kids ages 6 to 12."
McNeil tells us they hope to educate and interest children in the arts in creative, age-appropriate ways. They'll focus on educational elements like music and art and numbers and shapes. And, the lessons and projects will all have themes that coincide with exhibits at the museum or Mobile events. McNeil explains, "they'll do things inspired by jazz, by Mardi Gras and also story boards and comic strips."
Again, these classes are free. So, you and your little ones can take part together or you can have your kids go on their own, and you don't have to pay anything to do it.
