FT. WALTON BEACH, Fla (WALA) - The community around Ft. Walton Beach held a fund-raiser for Okaloosa County Sheriff's Deputy Steven Hough.

Hough was shot once in the face and twice in the leg while serving a warrant to David Christopher Lewis in Milton this past December.

Authorities say Lewis ran out of a home firing two handguns, striking Hough.

Deputies fired back, fatally hitting Lewis.

More than a hundred people turned out Sunday to show their support.

"It's just unbelievable. They called me and were like 'Man this place is packed out'. I knew there was support but I just didn't know how much. Now that I see how much, it's just overwhelming," said Deputy Steven Hough.

There were plenty of hugs to go around as some hadn't seen Hough since he was hospitalized.

He says he's had some tough times but they're getting better.

"Things are getting better. There are some growing pains but my family and I are doing great with it," Hough said.

The fund-raiser drew folks from throughout the community, as well as law enforcement from around the area.

Bryan Hough says he's thrilled to see so much support for his brother.

"When he first got shot, it wasn't that a deputy got shot - it was that my brother got shot. That's always the biggest fear. There's three of us in law enforcement and there's always a chance something will happen to one of us," said Bryan Hough.

Despite the shooting, Deputy Hough says he's ready to get back to work.

"I can't wait to get back on that saddle, and do what I do. It's obviously between me and my wife what I do in the long run. We have a long way to go yet, so when that day comes, I'll be ready to go," said Hough.
