GULF OF MEXICO (WALA) - The United States Coast Guard says a helicopter belonging to a company that services the offshore oil industry crashed Monday in the Gulf of Mexico.
Coast Guard officials say the pilot was the only one on board. Divers found the pilot's body overnight. He was still in the cockpit. The helicopter was completely submerged. The pilot's name has not been released pending notification of his next of kin.
The Coast Guard say the crash happened just after 4 p.m. Monday, about 35 miles off the southwest coast of Grand Isle, Louisiana.
The National Transportation safety board will investigate the cause of the accident.
