Teen escapes from Prichard police

PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - A young man who escaped from police custody at Strickland Youth Center will now be taken to Mobile Metro Jail.

Anthony Greene, of Prichard, was arrested for second-degree assault in a March 17 stabbing incident, along with a number of other charges.

In that assault incident, police said Green stabbed another person with a knife under the armpit.

That victim was treated and then later released.

On March 19, 16-year-old Green was involved in a car chase with Prichard Police Department.

Police said he was one of three occupants who jumped out of their vehicle.

Police said the chase continued on foot, and they apprehended all three subjects.

Tuesday morning, March 20, PPD said Greene threatened his mother with a knife in her house and then barricaded himself in the bathroom.

When an officer arrived and kicked down the door to the bathroom, Greene dropped the knife into the sink and was apprehended.

Greene was taken to Strickland Youth Center for menacing and domestic violence against his mother.

A nurse at Strickland required the officer take Greene to the hospital for an injury to his foot from the chase. They treated and released him, and the officer took him back to Strickland.

“He was brought in by the police department. Our sally-port was full, so they parked in a regular parking place. And somehow, as they were bringing him inside the gated area, he got away,” said Juvenile Judge Edmond Naman.

Greene closed the gate behind the officer, locking him in and himself out.

“It took the officer a while to get loose. Someone saw him, I think from the parking lot, and they were able to apprehend Greene,” said Naman.

Police said Greene ran away on foot, still handcuffed but the officer apprehended him at the Bishop State Campus across the street.

This brought more charges: third degree escape, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

At the time of the arrest, Greene was on probation and had an active misdemeanor warrant .

“Any child that's on probation are actively checked depending on their level of probation anywhere from one to two,  three times a week,” said Naman.

Naman said Greene escaped from Prichard police and was never in Strickland Youth Center's custody.

Greene will be removed from Strickland Youth Center and taken to Metro Jail.
