81-year-old crashes vehicle into power pole, dies

MPD: Medical emergency could have caused crash

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Wednesday at 5:55 p.m., Mobile police responded to Conti Street and Bayou Street for an investigation of a vehicle crash. 

Police said 81-year-old Mervin McKinnis lost control of his vehicle and crashed into two power poles and a tree while traveling east bound on Conti Street

McKinnis was transported to Mobile Infirmary Medical Center where he later died. 

Detectives said they do not believe that alcohol or drugs were involved, but McKinnis may have had a medical emergency causing him to lose control of the vehicle. 

Police said they will continue to investigate.
