Jury selection for Lee, accused of killing Kyser Miree, to begin

Mobile, Ala. (WALA) - Jury selection begins Tuesday in the capital murder trial of Michael Lee.

Lee is accused of shooting 23-year-old Kyser Miree in the head during a robbery in 2010.

Investigators said on April 16, 2010, four suspects watched a man remove cash from an ATM and then followed him to a home on Macy Place.

Inside was 23-year-old Kyser Miree, a Vanderbilt graduate who worked as an engineer.

While the four suspects parked their car, the man who used the ATM picked up Miree’s roommate and left.

Soon after, authorities say the four men brought guns and shoved their way inside Miree’s home and demanded money.

"The testimony is he was knocked to the floor. He's on the floor, got his hands up and he is begging for his life and they pull the trigger anyway," said Mobile County District Attorney John Tyson, Jr. in 2010.

Miree died at a hospital from the gunshot wound to the head.

A few months later, Mobile police made four arrests in the case: Bo Taylor, Earnest Wiggins, Jamal Lang and Michael Lee.

They're all charged with capital murder.

Michael Lee will be tried first and jury selection for his trial will begin Tuesday morning. If convicted, Lee could face the death penalty.

Last month, Lee's defense attorneys asked a judge to move the trial, due to the extensive media coverage. The judge denied that request, saying a fair jury can be found in Mobile County.

Ben Miree, Kyser's father, said, "My wife and I will be glad to get to the other side of this process so we can heal and go on."
