New developments in Steve Giardini case

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Alabama Attorney General’s Office filed a notice to the defendant this month regarding newly introduced evidence found on former Specialized Child Sex Crime Prosecutor Steve Giardini’s personal computer.

According to the notice, thousands of nude images of females under the age of 17 were found in Giardini’s possession.  

The notice states Giardini used over 20 separate screen names to solicit sex and nude images from underage females in chat rooms.

Allegedly, those conversations involved sexual preference and practices, requests of photographs and directly soliciting the females in online sexual acts.

 “The images won’t be available to the defense council till later this week. It would be inappropriate to comment until I see those images," said Defense Attorney Dennis Knizley.

This is all coming up after FBI agent’s confiscated equipment from Giardini's home in April 2009.

He was arrested in August  2010 and accused of soliciting a 15-year-old girl over the internet to have sex. The girl he was allegedly contacting was an undercover FBI agent.

The attorney general's office said Giardini was going to produce pornography.

After the arrest, Giardini was released on $250,000 bond.

Then in May 2011, Giardini appeared in a Mobile County courtroom, accused of enticing a child for sexual purposes and soliciting child pornography.

A jury was deadlocked in his case.

In 2011, State attorney Andrew Arrington said he would retry Giardini.

Now, in March 2012, the attorney general's office said the material found may be used at trial.

Right now, no date has been publicly announced.
