DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (WALA) - Elections scheduled for Tuesday on Dauphin Island are expected to go on, even with the impending threat of Tropical Storm Isaac, said Mayor Jeff Collier Saturday.
Collier said he scheduled a special meeting with city council members Monday morning to determine whether that will hold true as the storm continues on a track toward the Gulf of Mexico and central to western Gulf Coast.
“I would rather we didn’t have to postpone it. I think that speaks for everybody. But at the same time I want to make sure that our actions will allow as many people to vote as possible,” said Collier.

Some renters on the West End of the island have said they will ride the storm out until they are told to evacuate the island.
Debbie Houston said her family vacation last year was canceled, so she’s are hoping this one will make it through Labor Day.
"This year, we come on over and are anticipating and hoping not to leave,” said Houston.
Collier said public beach equipment will be removed from the beach Sunday and he will keep a close eye on possible flooding in the coming days.
“We have flood prone areas on Dauphin Island, particularly the West End, but we also have the area on the island…the road leading to the Island… we have to be concerned about those weak links,” he said.
One beach house owner journeyed from Shreveport, La. to board up their property on the island before returning to Louisiana.
“The young men put all the boards up and the old men told them what to do,” joked Henry Dodd.
