Recycle those old phone books

MOBILE, Ala. - Got too many phone books? Declare your independence from the old one this 4th of July.

Everyone should have their new AT & T Real Yellow Pages telephone directories by now so it is time to recycle the old ones.

Keep Mobile Beautiful wants everyone to know how easy it is to recycle their old directories.

• Deliver them to the Metro Recycling Center located at 1451 Government Street.

• Place them in your bin or cart if you have curbside recycling by Recycled Fibers or Earth Resources.

• Deliver them to any of the 150 special Recycled Fibers paper recycling drop boxes located throughout the county.

In Mobile County alone 238,000 books were delivered to area business and residential customers.

Each book weighs 2.972 pounds which means a total of 707,574 pounds of books have been delivered. Since the 2008 books weigh about the same then we should recycle an equal amount.
